![]() The first thing I noticed after briefly “painting” some color onto a new “canvas” was that the paint actually looked a little three-dimensional. ![]() There are better versions available that are just called Corel Painter-but since this version was free, I’m definitely not complaining. Keep in mind throughout that this is only Corel Painter Essentials, and it came free with my Wacom drawing tablet. ![]() I’m not going to extensively compare and contrast Painter with Photoshop in this article, but I WILL point out some of what you’ll get with Painter if you’re a traditional artist interested in going digital. Well, this week I actually took a look at Corel Painter to see if I was right. Since I had Photoshop already, I didn’t even bother installing Painter at first-I figured that anything Corel Painter could offer me I could already do in Photoshop. ANd that is so frustrating after the many thousands of dollars I have spent with Corel on programs, program upgrades, brushes, etc, over the years. When I bought my Wacom Graphire a few months ago it came with Corel Painter Essentials. You nailed it when you said Corel's tech support is useless. Tech support assured me (after 10 days of going 'round and 'round, and one slight hissy fit from me) that they would have a 'technical support expert' call me on the phone to assist me 'right away'. They should install directly to the PE6 brush folder because that is literally the only program they work in, but they're not there (except for the installers which I dropped in there). They aren't in my Particle Shop brushes folder, nor in any folder in my Photo Mirage, or any other Corel program I own. They are also not in my PaintShop brushes folder. I've checked the brushes folders of all iterations of Painter Essentials and Painter that are on my computer and they aren't there. A search of my computer by brush pack name only shows the original intallers, so if they did install somewhere, I don't know where. When I double click to install the brushes, they go through a legitimate installation process, but it doesn't show where they are being installed to, nor does it give the option to install to a specific place. The brush pack installers are in the PE6 brushes folder only because I dropped them in there after trying everything else I could think of. Honestly, I'm at my wits end so if ANYONE can just answer that question for me, it would be awesome. Still no one wants to tell me the only thing I have asked which is "HOW DO I IMPORT BRUSHES FOR PE6 THAT I PURCHASED ON THE COREL WEBSITE INTO PE6 WHICH I ALSO PURCHASED ON THE COREL WEBSITE?" I've shown them PROOF that they are specifically for Painter Essentials 6 by providing them with links to Corel pages that show 'master painter' webinars specifically for Bob Ross brushes made for PE6, and You Tube videos of the same. Now they are telling me that the Bob Ross brushes are only for Painter and not for Painter Essentials 6. Instead, it's been ten days of arguing with them and escalating tickets and speaking to managers who never call back even though they say they will. Ten days later I still can not use the brushes because tech support either can't or refuses to tell me how to import them into the program. I purchased all of this directly from Corel's website. I have Painter Essentials 5 (and all the other interations prior to that), but I wanted to use the Bob Ross brush pack for Painter Essentials and it only works with Painter Essentials 6, so I purchased PE6 at the same time I purchased the Bob Ross brushes for PE6. I am DESPERATE for some help after TEN days of dealing with Corel tech support and getting no help whatsoever.
